Vasectomy (Latin vasotomia, vas - vessel and Greek ektomía - excise) is the best known, most effective and completely safe method of male contraception. It is a very popular procedure that has been used in the USA for many years. It is estimated that 20% of men over 35 in the United States have undergone vasectomy, and up to half a million such procedures are performed each year. In Poland, this method has been unavailable for years and is currently gaining more and more popularity.
Compared to other methods of contraception, vasectomy is the most effective in preventing pregnancy. The failure rate of this method is negligible, which is why more and more men decide to take this step. The effectiveness of the method is over 99.8%. Additionally, compared to tubal ligation, vasectomy is much easier, cheaper and safer.

Treatment procedure - what is the procedure?
Vasectomy is an uncomplicated microsurgical urological procedure performed on an outpatient basis. It consists in cutting and ligating the vas or vas deferens in order to break their continuity. The effect of the intervention is the blockage of the lumen of the vas deferens, thus stopping the sperm transport to the ejaculate. This procedure only blocks their transmission, but in no way affects a man's sexual behavior, such as the ability to erect, orgasm, ejaculate or have pleasant sex. Sexual desire is also not reduced, and the glands that produce ejaculate do not change after the procedure. The color, smell, and consistency of the ejaculate also remain the same. ñThe procedure requires sutures. This technique has many other benefits, such as: shorter treatment and rehabilitation time, less discomfort and greater effectiveness.
The WBS procedure itself lasts from 15 to 30 minutes and depends largely on the anatomical conditions of the vas deferens and, most often, on the patient's overweight.
The procedure begins with local anesthesia of the scrotal skin above the vas deferens. The next step is cutting the vas deferens and ligating them with a surgical thread. In addition, the ends of the vas deferens are closed by electrocoagulation and placed separately in different compartments of the scrotum, which reduces their possibility of re-joining. After the procedure, only slight discomfort is usually felt.
After vasectomy, caution, a sparing lifestyle, and sexual absenteeism for 7 days are advisable, as the patient may feel slight pain and gentle "pulling".

FAQ
1. Is it possible to reverse the vasectomy procedure?
It used to be assumed that the vasectomy procedure was permanent and irreversible. However, this is not true, as the development of macrosurgical techniques makes it possible to restore the patency and continuity of the vas deferens in a man. 5% - 10% reversibility.
2. At what age can a vasectomy be performed?
Age itself is not the determining factor. In the USA, vasectomy can be performed after the age of 18, while in the Scandinavian countries only after the age of 25. The age limit therefore depends on the law in force in a specific country. In Poland, there are currently no regulations regulating this problem, therefore each patient is approached in an individual way when it comes to carrying out the procedure.
